A coal-loaded 59-wagon freight train traveling from Odisha to Ambala derailed near Mania railway station in the Agra division on February 28 due to overheating of an axle bearing. A preliminary probe by a five-member team attributed the incident to maintenance negligence, with the Coach and Wagon Department blamed by most officials, while its representative pointed to the Mechanical Department and others. The Jhansi rail division was also criticized for failing to detect smoke and report the issue despite the train traveling 30-40 km with the defect, causing disruption to passenger and goods train operations for several hours.
