In Navi Mumbai, a 30-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly strangling her six-year-old daughter. Police state the motive was a desire for a son and dissatisfaction with the child's speech, particularly her use of Hindi over Marathi. The woman, who has a science degree and is reportedly undergoing treatment for depression, initially attempted to pass the death off as a heart attack. A suspicious police officer ordered a special post-mortem, which revealed signs of strangulation, leading to the mother's confession and arrest.
