Narendra Bijarniya, an IPS officer previously removed as Rohtak SP, has been appointed as the new SP of Karnal. This follows his being named in an FIR related to the suicide of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. The FIR, registered by Chandigarh police, includes charges of abetment to suicide and under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, based on Kumar's suicide note alleging caste discrimination and harassment by several officers. Bijarniya had been without an assignment since his previous posting.
