Madhya Pradesh High Court expressed serious concern over the poor condition of police evidence storage facilities, known as malkhanas, after rats allegedly destroyed crucial samples in a drug case. The court noted that 28 other samples were also damaged, preventing a key forensic report and leading to the collapse of the case. The judge directed the state police chief to inspect all malkhanas and improve their upkeep.
