Fatal Kite String Incidents During Makar Sankranti Raise Safety Concerns Across India

During the Makar Sankranti festival, multiple fatal incidents involving sharp kite strings, commonly known as 'Chinese manjha,' were reported across India. In Karnataka's Bidar district, 48-year-old motorcyclist Sanjukumar Hosamani died after a kite string slit his throat, with family alleging delayed ambulance response. Similar deaths occurred in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur and Telangana's Sangareddy, where kite strings caused fatal neck injuries. Despite bans and enforcement efforts, the use and sale of these hazardous nylon strings persist, prompting calls for stricter action and public awareness to prevent further casualties.
