A goods train operated by Chettinad Cements collided with a college bus carrying about 25 students near Karur, Tamil Nadu, at an unmanned private railway crossing between Veerarakkiyam and Palayam on March 14. Around 23 students were injured and treated at local hospitals, with some discharged after first aid. Southern Railway stated the incident occurred on a private line outside its jurisdiction and attributed the collision to the bus driver crossing without observing the train. The railway urged the cement company to implement safety protocols.
