UP Court Sentences Man to Life for Burning Friend Over Old Grudge

A local court in Uttar Pradesh sentenced Deepak Kumar to life imprisonment and a fine of ₹6.5 lakh for murdering his friend Ashutosh Tiwari by setting him on fire in 2012. The victim was allegedly drugged, assaulted, and burned over an old grudge linked to a past conflict involving a love letter to Tiwari's sister. The body was recovered from Kumar's village after he disclosed its location. The court ordered half the fine to be paid to the victim's legal heir or father.
