In Nanguneri's Perumpaththu village, an armed gang attacked passers-by on the night of March 2, killing two men—including a local resident and a North Indian migrant labourer—and injuring five to six others. The assailants, reportedly masked and arriving on two-wheelers, used sickles in the unprovoked assault. Police have detained one suspect and are investigating the motive, which officials say is not caste-related. Residents have protested, linking the attack to a recent petrol bomb incident in the area.
