India has initiated the process to extradite Hussain Mohammed Shattaf from the UAE. Shattaf is wanted in connection with the 2006 murder of retired Merchant Navy Captain Manmohan Singh Virdi in Lonavala, Maharashtra. Officials state he fled India after the crime and has been living illegally in the UAE using forged documents, including a passport obtained with false information. He also faces charges of forgery and criminal breach of trust. India is committed to repatriating fugitives involved in major criminal cases.
