Kouri Richins, a Utah woman and children's author, was convicted of aggravated murder for poisoning her husband, Eric Richins, with a lethal dose of fentanyl in March 2022. Prosecutors said she was motivated by debt and the belief she would inherit his $4 million estate. She was also found guilty of attempted murder, insurance fraud, and forgery. Richins had previously attempted to poison her husband weeks earlier and had self-published a children's book on grief after his death, which prosecutors referenced during the trial.
