
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of an explosion at an explosives manufacturing unit in Raulgaon, Nagpur, on March 1, 2026, which killed at least 18 workers and injured 24 others. The blast occurred in the factory's packing section, causing severe burn injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest possible violations of the Explosives and Factories Acts, and a culpable homicide case has been registered against the factory management. The NHRC has issued notices to Maharashtra's Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, seeking a detailed report within two weeks on the health status of the injured, investigation progress, and compensation measures.
