Manipur Authorities Arrest Opium Peddler and Destroy 79 Poppy Fields in Joint Operations

In Manipur, security forces conducted joint operations targeting illegal poppy cultivation and drug trafficking. Authorities arrested a suspected peddler with 16.6 kg of raw opium in Churachandpur district. Concurrently, teams destroyed 79 poppy fields across Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Kamjong districts, covering over 79 acres and burning related equipment. These efforts, involving police, army, forest officials, and others, led to multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, aiming to curb opium production valued at approximately Rs 2.5 crore.
