On February 22, ASI Gurnam Singh and home guard Ashok Kumar were found shot dead at a checkpost in Adhian village near the India-Pakistan border in Gurdaspur district. Punjab Police identified three suspects—Ranjit Singh, Inderjit Singh, and Dilawar Singh—allegedly acting under instructions from Pakistan-based handlers linked to the ISI. Dilawar was arrested earlier, Ranjit was killed in a police encounter after escaping custody, and Inderjit was arrested in Amritsar on February 27. The area is known for heroin smuggling and arms drops via drones.
