Madurai LIC Office Fire Investigated as Murder; Assistant Officer Arrested

A fire at the LIC office in Madurai on December 17, 2025, initially deemed accidental, has been ruled a murder by police. Senior Branch Manager Kalyani Nambi was killed after Assistant Administrative Officer Ram allegedly set fire to documents with petrol, trapped her inside a locked room, and fled. Ram sustained burn injuries and was arrested following investigations prompted by Kalyani's son's complaint and contradictory statements from Ram. The motive involved Kalyani probing irregularities and reprimanding Ram over delayed death claim files.
