Former ESI Branch Manager Sentenced to Four Years for Bribery in Punjab

Chandra Mohini, former branch manager at the Employees' State Insurance Corporation office in Kharar, was sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 20,000 for accepting bribes. She was found guilty under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act for demanding Rs 10,000 to release pending salary and Rs 5,000 monthly thereafter. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau conducted a trap and raid, recovering marked currency and cash. The court emphasized the need for strict punishment to deter corruption, while the defense cited her medical and family circumstances seeking leniency.
