Road accidents in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) have resulted in an average of four deaths daily during the first 11 months of the year, with 1,428 fatalities recorded. This represents a slight increase from previous years, with Navi Mumbai and Palghar experiencing high fatality rates alongside Mumbai. Experts attribute the consistent high numbers to systemic failures in urban planning, road safety measures, and a significant rise in vehicle registrations, exacerbated by increasing road infrastructure attracting more vehicles.
