A married couple, identified as Gardi Birowa (43) and Mira Birowa (33), were allegedly beaten and burnt alive by villagers in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on suspicion of practicing witchcraft. The incident occurred in No. 1 Beloguri Munda village in the Howraghat area. Police have registered a case under the Assam Witch Hunting Act and other relevant laws, and have arrested all accused individuals. The motive is believed to stem from deep-rooted superstitions and accusations of bringing misfortune to the area.
