Allahabad High Court Denies Bail to Accused in Phensedyl Syrup Case

The Allahabad High Court rejected the regular bail pleas of Vibhor Rana and Vishal Singh, accused in an alleged illegal stocking and transportation of Phensedyl cough syrup. The court had previously granted them interim bail in December 2023. The Uttar Pradesh government formed a joint Special Task Force and Food Safety and Drug Administration team to investigate, leading to the seizure of 52 cartons of cough syrup and arrests in November 2023. Authorities are probing a larger racket involving codeine-based syrups across several states and Bangladesh.
