ED Charges Online Betting App Linked to Pakistani Nationals; Government Blocks 242 Illegal Sites

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against Magicwin, an online betting platform directed by Pakistani nationals based in the UAE, for money laundering and unauthorized streaming of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 matches. India banned real-money online gaming and betting in 2025, citing financial and social harms, especially to youth. Concurrently, the government blocked 242 illegal betting websites, raising total takedowns to over 7,800, amid ongoing efforts to regulate the sector under the proposed Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act.
