The Allahabad High Court has overturned the conviction of Azad Khan, who spent nearly 24 years in jail for a dacoity case. The court ruled that a conviction cannot solely rely on an admission made under Section 313 of the CrPC without corroborative evidence. Justices JJ Munir and Sanjiv Kumar noted Khan's incarceration was "sad," suggesting his admission may have been fear-driven and lacked legal aid, violating his right to a fair trial. Khan was convicted in 2002 for a 2000 incident involving armed miscreants.
