Shimla police are implementing a new preventive model to combat drug trafficking, identifying approximately 50 habitual offenders. As of November 30, 2025, Shimla has registered 255 drug-related cases, with 25 proposals submitted for preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act. This initiative follows a significant increase in NDPS cases statewide over the past decade, prompting the state government's 'anti-chitta' campaign. The model aims to address repeat offenders who exploit legal technicalities after arrest.
