Uttar Pradesh authorities, led by the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) under CM Yogi Adityanath's directive, have dismantled a significant illegal network involving codeine-based cough syrups and NDPS-category medicines. Investigations spanning multiple states revealed links to UP-based wholesalers. The FSDA conducted over 332 inspections across 52 districts, leading to FIRs against 161 firms. Cases have been registered under the NDPS Act and BNS, with the Allahabad High Court upholding proceedings. Proposals for stricter rules, including geo-tagging of wholesalers, are being sent to state and central governments to prevent non-medical diversion.
