The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested 19-year-old dental student Haarish Ali from Saharanpur for allegedly running online ISIS-linked groups. He reportedly used social media platforms like Instagram and encrypted apps such as Session and Discord, employing pseudonyms and VPNs to spread ISIS propaganda, recruit members, and coordinate with handlers in India and abroad. Authorities allege the groups aimed to establish a Sharia-based caliphate and plan terrorist activities. The ATS registered a case under relevant anti-terror laws and continues its investigation.
