Authorities arrested five individuals, including a District Transport Officer from Assam, for smuggling high-end used vehicles from Bhutan into India. The investigation revealed that around 460 vehicles, both foreign and Indian-made, were illegally imported and registered using forged documents to evade Customs duties. The operation, initiated by the Customs Commissionerate in Kochi, uncovered a network involved in re-registering and selling these vehicles across various states. The alleged mastermind was apprehended near the India-Bhutan border and is in judicial custody.
