Kerala MLA Rahul Mamkootathil Sent to Police Custody in Third Sexual Assault Case

Kerala's expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil was sent to three days' police custody by a Thiruvalla court in connection with a third sexual assault case. The complaint, filed by a woman now in Canada, alleges rape at a Thiruvalla hotel in April 2024. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is collecting evidence, including examining Mamkootathil's mobile phones, despite his refusal to share passwords. Protests erupted during his court appearances, and his defense contests procedural aspects and claims consensual relations. The court will consider his bail plea on January 16.
