The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of an incident where an elderly, cancer-stricken woman was found abandoned in garbage in Mumbai's Aarey Colony. The SHRC is investigating allegations that a civic hospital refused her admission and treatment, deeming it a grave human rights lapse if true. The commission has directed the Municipal Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police to submit inquiry reports within eight weeks.
