UK Solicitor General Refers British Sikh Man's Murder Sentence for Review
The UK's Solicitor General has referred the 21-year minimum life sentence of British Sikh Vickrum Digwa to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme. Digwa was convicted of murdering 18-year-old Henry Nowak in south-east England. The referral challenges the sentence as insufficient, amid public concern and scrutiny over police handling. Digwa's claim of self-defence using a kirpan, a Sikh ceremonial knife, was rejected, with community leaders condemning its misrepresentation during the trial.
