In Tumakuru district, Karnataka, Jayalakshmi, a government employee, was found dead on February 19, initially believed to have died of natural causes. Following suspicions raised by her live-in partner Srinivas, police arrested her sister Anasuya and nephew Chandrashekhar (also called Chennakeshava) during funeral preparations. An autopsy confirmed Jayalakshmi was suffocated. The accused allegedly plotted the murder fearing loss of financial support and assets, with plans to claim a government job on compassionate grounds. Jayalakshmi had raised Chandrashekhar after Anasuya's separation, though no formal adoption was recorded.
