South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb mistakenly transferred over 620,000 bitcoins, worth around 40 to 44 billion won, to 695 users during a promotional event. The exchange restricted trading and withdrawals within 35 minutes and recovered 99.7% of the bitcoins. Bithumb apologized for the error, which briefly caused a 17% drop in bitcoin prices on its platform. The company stated the incident was unrelated to hacking and will cover any losses with its own assets.
