The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved additional postgraduate medical seats for the 2025-26 academic year. Following appeals by medical colleges against earlier decisions, the NMC's First Appeal Committee sanctioned 171 seats after meetings on December 22-23, 2025. These seats span various disciplines including General Medicine, Surgery, and Pediatrics. The NMC instructed counselling authorities not to delay admissions pending formal Letters of Permission, which will be issued shortly. One source also noted a total of 587 seats were added for MD/MS programs.
