Karnataka's Higher Education Department plans to cap admissions in computer science and related engineering courses starting from the 2026-27 academic year. A one-man committee will be formed to study and set guidelines for rationalizing seat intake, similar to regulations in Telangana. While new emerging streams like Quantum Computing may be considered, existing computer science course seats will not be increased. This regulation will apply to government and private colleges affiliated with VTU and private universities, excluding deemed-to-be universities under UGC purview.
