Haryana to Enforce Six-Year Minimum Age for Class 1 Admissions from 2026

From the 2026-27 academic year, Haryana will require children to be at least six years old to enroll in Class 1, ending the previous six-month age waiver. This change follows directives from the Punjab and Haryana High Court and aligns with the National Education Policy 2020. Similar six-year age rules have been adopted by 30 states and union territories, including Delhi, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Karnataka. Children not meeting the age criteria will attend pre-primary classes until eligible, ensuring age-appropriate peer grouping.
