The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) plans to implement the National Education Policy 2020's three-language formula starting from the 2026-27 academic session for Class 6 students. Under this policy, students will study three languages, with at least two being Indian languages. English will be treated as a foreign language where offered. The National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023 recommends continuing all three languages through Classes 9 and 10, potentially including a third language exam by 2031. States and schools will have flexibility in language choices, and new study materials are being prepared.
