CBSE to Implement Three-Language Policy in Class 6 from 2026-27 Academic Year

Starting from the 2026-27 academic session, CBSE will implement the National Education Policy 2020's three-language formula for Class 6, requiring students to study three languages, with at least two being Indian languages. English will be classified as a 'foreign' language. The National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023 recommends continuing all three languages through Classes 9 and 10, with the Class 10 Board exam including a third language paper by 2031. CBSE is preparing learning materials for nine languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Gujarati, and Bangla.
