Starting from the 2026-27 academic session, CBSE will implement the National Education Policy 2020 and National Curriculum Framework 2023 by introducing a third language option for Class 6 students. English will be classified as a 'foreign' language, requiring students to study two Indian languages alongside it or another foreign language. This third language study will continue until Class 10, with the Class 10 Board exam including the third language by 2031. CBSE is preparing learning materials for nine languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Gujarati, and Bangla.
