The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is expected to receive deemed-to-be-university status by the end of January, according to sources in the Ministry of Education. This transition, announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in 2023, aims to enhance global collaborations and research contributions. The University Grants Commission (UGC) will hold a meeting to finalize the decision. Once granted, NCERT will function as a research university, primarily funded by the Ministry of Education.
