Maharashtra's school education department has clarified that teachers must pass the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) to be eligible for promotions, following a Supreme Court ruling that made TET mandatory for both new and in-service teachers. While a two-year window until November 2027 is provided to clear the TET, this relaxation does not apply to promotions. The state is also collecting detailed data on in-service teachers to assess the impact of retrospectively enforcing the TET mandate before finalizing implementation plans.
