Kerala's higher education sector is undergoing significant changes with the introduction of new-generation courses in government and aided colleges from the 2026-27 academic year, pending university approvals. Around 520 new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in emerging fields like AI, machine learning, and data science are planned. Concurrently, the University of Calicut has discontinued several traditional courses due to low student interest, while encouraging new-age integrated and honours courses. The university plans to review and update syllabi to better align with current academic demands.
