Upasana Singh revealed she was initially selected by director Sooraj Barjatya for the female lead in the 1989 film Maine Pyar Kiya but was replaced by Bhagyashree reportedly because she was taller than Salman Khan. Despite an informal audition and meeting with Barjatya's father, she never received a final confirmation.
