
Veteran actress Sarada has been selected for the 2024 J.C. Daniel Award, Kerala's highest film honour recognizing lifetime contributions to Malayalam cinema. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, a citation, and a statuette, and will be presented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the Kerala State Film Awards ceremony on January 25, 2026. The jury, chaired by Sreekumaran Thampi, highlighted Sarada's portrayal of Malayali women’s struggles from the 1960s onward and her multiple National Film Awards, including for Thulabharam, Swayamvaram, and Nimajjanam. Born in 1945 in Andhra Pradesh, she debuted in Malayalam cinema in 1965 and has acted in over 125 films.
