Khetarpal, the youngest recipient of India's highest military honor, the Param Vir Chakra, displayed extraordinary courage at the Battle of Basantar. Born into a military family, he joined the National Defence Academy in 1967 and was commissioned into the 17 Poona Horse Battalion in 1971, where his valor became evident during the war.
