Actor-filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar began his acting journey accidentally through amateur theatre in 1975, inspired by workshops conducted by his neighbour Jaydev Hattangadi. He debuted commercially in 1984 with the play "Aflatoon" and later founded the Ashwami Theatre Group in 1988. Transitioning to direction in the mid-1990s, Manjrekar made his directorial debut with "Vaastav: The Reality" (1999). Despite focusing on directing, he continues to accept compelling acting roles on stage and in films.
