Pope Gregory XIII, born in 1502 in Bologna, Italy, was the 226th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church from 1572 until his death in 1585. He is primarily remembered for introducing the Gregorian calendar, a reform that corrected inaccuracies in the Julian calendar and is now followed globally. He studied law and theology before entering the Church.
