India's Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reduced its average film certification time to 18 working days for feature films and three days for short films, following the implementation of an Online Certification System under the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 2024. This is below the prescribed maximum of 48 working days. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting reported that in 2025-2026, 2,248 films were certified, with 55 challenged before Revising Committees and 10 in High Courts. The update comes amid a legal dispute over the delayed certification of Thalapathy Vijay's film 'Jana Nayagan.'
