
Ramanand Sagar, born Chandramouli Chopra in Lahore on December 29, 1917, was a filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer celebrated for bringing the epic Ramayana to television in 1987. Beginning his career in the 1940s, he worked as a journalist and Urdu author before directing mythological dramas. His adaptation of Ramayana emphasized dharma and devotion. Sagar also directed the landmark series Mahabharat, contributing significantly to the revival of Indian mythology on television.
