Padma Viswanathan Longlisted for International Booker Prize 2026 for Translation

Padma Viswanathan, a Canadian-American writer and translator of Indian origin, has been longlisted for the International Booker Prize 2026 for her English translation of Brazilian author Ana Paula Maia's novel "On Earth As It Is Beneath." The novel, set in a remote penal colony with a history of slavery and cruelty, explores themes of power, violence, and institutional corruption. The longlist includes 13 books from 11 languages, with the prize money shared equally between authors and translators. The shortlist will be announced on March 31, with the winner revealed in May at Tate Modern, London.
