Cold Wave Persists in J&K and Ladakh with Snowfall Expected from January 19

Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are experiencing intense cold with sub-zero temperatures and frozen water bodies, including parts of Dal Lake. Srinagar recorded lows near minus 5 degrees Celsius, while Ladakh remains the coldest region. The area is in the 'Chilla-i-Kalan' cold period lasting until January 30. Despite snowfall in higher altitudes, the plains have faced a dry spell, worsening air quality. Meteorological officials forecast light to moderate snowfall from January 19 to 24, which may improve temperatures and air conditions.
