
Jammu and Kashmir has experienced a significant rainfall deficit during the winter season of 2025-26, marking the seventh consecutive year of below-normal precipitation. Independent forecaster Faizan Arif reported a 65% overall shortfall from December to February, with Kishtwar district facing the highest deficit at 90%. The India Meteorological Department also noted a 39% combined rainfall and snowfall deficit, with October to December and early January showing substantial below-average precipitation across most districts.
