The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts an above-normal number of heatwave days across most parts of India between March and May 2026, including regions such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, and eastern states. While March may see normal to below-normal maximum temperatures in many areas, minimum temperatures are expected to be above normal in several regions. The IMD warns that increased heatwave conditions could impact public health, water resources, and agriculture, though normal to above-normal rainfall is anticipated in many parts, supporting the rabi crop harvest. Weak La Niña conditions are prevailing, with a possible shift to neutral ENSO later in the season.
