The first phase of the 2025 wetland bird census was conducted in the Gudalur Forest Division of the Nilgiris on December 28, 2025. The Forest Department, which conducts two annual censuses, trained 60 forest staff and 25 volunteers on December 26 on census methods. The wetland bird census took place at 21 locations within the Gudalur Forest Range.
